As a guide:

1kg will knit to approx. ½ square metre. Although this may vary dependent on tension and needle size.

Blanket 48 x 48 inches — (120cm x 120cm) approx. 3KG
Blanket 58 x 58 inches — (148cm x 148cm) approx. 4KG
Blanket 64 x 80 inches — (160cm x 200cm) approx. 6KG

HOW TO WORK OUT HOW MUCH YARN YOU NEED

Multiply each side together. Divide by 5000. Result is KG.
For example: 100cm x 100cm (desired finished blanket size) = 10000 sq cm / 5000 = 2KG
